Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered/Professional Nursing, Epidemiology or Microbiology program or a Master's of Public Health degree.
Licensure, Certification and Registration: Florida state licensure as designated by clinical training program. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider. Must obtain the CIC certification within 1 year of employment.
Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, effective communications skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required Work Experience: 1 year experienced Infection Preventionist, in multiple services including Cardiac, Transplant, Trauma, Neuro, Oncology, Mother/baby.
Provides surveillance for infection control purposes. Identifies, investigates, and records data concerning nosocomial infections and infectious diseases. Initiates infection control measures as directed by infection control committee. Develops infection control policies and prevention programs.
1. Investigates and monitors known or potential sources of suspected infections in order to determine source and ensure control.
2. Uses standard methods and criteria for identifying infections.
3. Maintains, records, tracks, and trends data concerning infections and infectious diseases.
4. Provides staff training and education.
